Larkmoss Botanicals brand board: the stacked logo with a fern in an arch, a Canopy facial oil bottle and stationery in arch-shaped windows, and the seven-color palette.

The brief

Challenge, idea, audience.

The challenge

A one-person studio on Lookout Mountain was making beautiful small-batch skincare but selling it in mismatched jars and hand-lettered labels that looked like a hundred other natural brands. The brand had to feel giftable and premium without shouting, and let a boutique shelf or a gift buyer feel the mountain it comes from.

The idea

The understory: quiet luxury from one layer below the canopy. An open arch of window light and the shadow of a single fern carry every label, card and shelf, and each product is named for a layer of the forest.

The audience

Women 28 to 55 across the Southeast who buy clean, giftable skincare and care where it comes from, down to the mountain and the maker.

Name health check

Does the name hold up?

The briefed name, Fernhollow Botanicals, was searched on Sept 28, 2026 (web search for Fernhollow and Fern Hollow with skincare, botanicals, apothecary and soap) and dropped because Fern Hollow is already used by active soap and herbal sellers. We renamed the brand Larkmoss Botanicals; searches for Larkmoss with skincare, botanicals, apothecary, soap and candles found no identical business, only differently spelled lark-themed names, and a formal trademark search is still advised before launch.

How the brand sounds.

Say

  • Name the plant and the place: calendula, yarrow, Lookout Mountain.
  • Use craft verbs: steeped, poured, wrapped, shipped.
  • Keep sentences short, warm and unhurried.

Avoid

  • Miracle, detox or anti-aging claims.
  • Wellness jargon, hype and exclamation points.
  • A vague “natural” with no source or place.

A sample line
